John has been teaching me how to play for just over a year now and although progress has been relatively slow (completely my own fault due to a lack of time to practice), John has always shown great understanding and even greater patience.

He's managed to somehow teach me how to play some of my favourite songs, including 'Here Comes the Sun' and I'd absolutely recommend him to any budding guitarists out there.

Put the kettle on and enjoy!

The other day i asked myself how could I describe John in one word? Talented, dedicated, helpful, kind, generous, thoughtful? my conclusion is that John can not be portraid in anything less than an essay! Another words John is incredible at what he does, he takes all things in to consideration. He is able to cater to everyone's needs, teaching in the style best for YOU and he certainly has patience and grace in all he does. One of the best things about John is that he always has a smile on his face. I recommend John to anyone and everyone who is interested in learning no matter what level you are! Works Miracles!

Totally impressed by John's very clever teaching methods, skills and talent as a musician too! I have never played guitar but had always fancied the idea, so for my 50th birthday and much to my friends and family's surprise, I asked for an acoustic guitar. YouTube was my plan but after 4 months had learnt only 3 chords and not a clue about anything else. After just 2 lessons with John, I'd learnt 9 of the 12 chords he left for me and a song!! I can't wait for my fortnightly lesson and rush home from work to practise most days. Highly recommended.

Great teacher, great musician

Just had my third lesson with John and thoroughly enjoying my journey so far. I myself teach, not musically I might add, but teach non the less, and it requires a special set of skills. John has a teaching method that is very friendly, attentive, patient, clearly experienced and skillfull in his own right as a musician. Every other Sunday is a date in my calendar I always look forward to.

Superb Teacher and Lovely Fella

John has been teaching my 15yr old daughter acoustic guitar for maybe 4 months now and wow!

Her playing has come on leaps and bounds. Everything is so improved even down to her developing a delicate touch and rythm but even the how each string is played. Everything sounds so even and tuneful now.

Every lesson is an improvement and its obvious from the second I hear her play. She is so enthusiastic and looks forward to John coming everytime.

My daughter can be quiet and shy, but John has a wonderful warm and friendly personality which always gets her involved and joining in.
She can be hard on herself if she struggles with anything (a perfectionist and maybe a bit OCD... lol!), but John is so supportive and often quotes 'Rome wasn't built in a day!' and makes light of it if she makes a mistake or gets upset with herself. He then picks her right back up and gets her playing it fine in no time at all.

I'm currently sat in an adjoining room working whilst John is giving her a lesson. I can hear them both laughing and her playing sounds lovely and really melodic. As she plays John is singing the verse (he really has a nice voice too) and it's so nice and I can repeatedly hear John complimenting her and her giving support.

I'm so happy to have found John and would 100% recommend him to anyone, even to someone who is very timid and she.

He is a truely lovely guy and a fantastic Guitar Teacher too.

The Final Lesson

Posted Wednesday 27 Aug 2014 01:56 PM
I have now completed around 2 and half years of lessons with John and have moved from strumming ( badly) the odd chord to being able to play and even sing a range of songs in strumming, finger picking and vamping styles. He has been an excellent tutor throughout and hopefully I can go on to use the skills he has taught me to good effect. I would thoroughly recommend John to any budding guitarist of any level, he is a modest but highly skilled guitarist with the patience of a saint.

Highly recommended ....

Posted Thursday 31 Jul 2014 10:40 AM
Like many self taught guitar players, you tend to reach a plateau that you cant seem to overcome. You continue to play what you are good at and go round and round in circles but never really progress any further. This is where this great guy comes in.

He is both proficient and patient and has helped me tremendously. He continues to push me beyond my comfort zone into areas that I could never have hope to be and every lesson teaches me something new.

I enjoy John's style of playing and teaching immensely and I would have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone, of all abilities, who wish to learn or move forward with their current level of playing.

He is not only a great tutor but has become a good friend too - thank you John :-)

8 months of guitar lessons in and we all couldn't be happier. Doing the lessons at the same time as my 2 kids works well and they are getting very confident with a guitar now. John puts the kids at ease, meaning they're never stressed playing and always think of it as fun rather than hard work. Looking forward to some new stuff to play in the new year. Merry Christmas John! From Phil, Sarah, Luke and Niamh.

Having had lessons previously from another teacher my 9 year old daughter had become disillusioned that she was doing the same thing each and as such lost interest and wanted to find a new teacher, a big thing for a girl of that age to ask! There followed an internet search and found this very site with the recommendations below - can it be that positive and inspiring - YES. Spoke with John & arranged a time for the lessons and what a difference. Paying less, for more organised, productive & motivated lessons which have seen my daughter progress more with him than the previous year in a variety of different styles never previously even mentioned. Importantly she enjoys it and receives really positive encouragement and praise from John throughout. If you are looking for lessons ring John.

Now in my fifties I have decided if I don't learn to play the guitar now, I never will! 2 months into my lessons with John, and every lesson I enjoy even more than the last one! I feel I've made real progress in a relatively short time, thanks to John's skill, ability to explain things in a way I understand, patience, encouragement, celebration of my progress, sense of humour and the knack he has of introducing new things at a pace that gently challenges me each lesson. The fact that he turns up on our doorstep with his guitar and music, rather than me bundling mine into the car to take them to have a lesson elsewhere, is an additional bonus! Thank you!!!

John is exactly what my daughter aged 6 and I aged 43 needed.
With years of teaching experience he knows not just what to teach but at the correct speed so you feel like you're progressing.

John is an easy going friendly guy which makes learning fun he also understands the busy life's that we as a family have so there is never any pressure to practice.

Johns a quality teacher and a quality bloke he cares about guitar and his pupils with a passion. My 10 year old daughter had her first guitar lesson with John recently, having never played any musical instrument. He was great with her and very encouraging. She can't wait for her next lesson.

Look no further for guitar lessons!

Posted Wednesday 24 Jul 2013 12:28 PM
After trying and failing to teach myself guitar on and off for about 5 years, I decided to try some lessons and a Google search revealed this professional looking website. So I thought, lets give it a try, and boy was it the right choice.

John makes learning easy and enjoyable, no playing just chords for hours on end. After the very first lesson i had a song to learn and practice, it was all very exciting and now 7 or 8 lessons later i have about 7 or 8 different tunes to practice, all using a variety of chords and play styles from strumming to finger picking.

I never dreamed that after a few short weeks I could have progressed so much, John's easy going and friendly teaching style are a credit to him and his love of guitar playing.

I would recommend John's services to anyone thinking of taking lessons. Young or old, beginner or not, I am sure he can help you out and you'll have fun doing it too. I know I do.

Thanks John.

John is an amazing teacher, He has such a lovely personality and he is so patient. He has been teaching my son Elliot for about 3 months now and Elliots really enjoying his lessons. The fact that John comes to our house is an added bonus as we dont have to round up all the kids to take Elliot to his lesson. I would reccommend John to anyone wanting to learn the guitar whatever your ability. His singings not bad either!! lol Thank you John

He is patient and understanding while encouraging. Which gives her alot of confidence in him and what she is learning.

I can't compliment John enough on his tuition, he makes learning to play the guitar fun, in a relaxed and often hilarious session. John's excellent methods allow you to make significant progress each week, so you never lose the novelty of playing. More so than his outstanding tuition, John is an outstanding bloke, who's company I look forward to every other Wednesday.

Had my guitar stuck in the cupboard for eight years after trying it all, learn in a day books (yerr whatever...!!), videos, dvds the lot with no success whatsoever !!!! So, at 48 I took a chance on lessons. found Johns website and booked my lessons. Now just had lesson number two and cannot believe I would have chords in my head and learning tunes and various styles of playing guitar, ok you only get out what you put in but with johns teaching style, friendly approach and patience (trust me he has plenty) I gained the confidence to play. John has a genuine love of the guitar and teaching.......Many thanks John roll on lesson three.

I find John to be an excellent teacher who has patience with my 6 year old son who is learning.

My boy seems to be progressing much better than I thought in such a short space of time and this is down to John being a big help in breaking the teaching down so my son understands it.

I would definately recommend John if you are looking for a teacher.

Nine months ago my parents took me out of a music academy, where I was not progessing, and booked me into fortnightly one hour sessions with John at our home. Since then I have moved forward so much that my parents now enjoy listening to my practice times that amount to over an hour every day.

In fact, they are so pleased with my progress and renewed enthusiasm that they have just bought me an electro-acoustic guitar. And they don't mind the extra volume!

I found that if I do my bit by practicing every day and following John's very good teaching methods, I can now play music that I once thought I would never be able to play.

My mom and dad join me in recommending John as an A+ guitar teacher.

after only10 lessons starting to know my way around the bass after learning a few chords im now on bass runs & playing a few songs for me its a bit like when i was learning to drive you seem to be getting nowhere fast you cant grasp it, then it falls in place so practise & guidance from john will soon have you on your way.a local bass player heard me play he knows ive only just started & was impressed on my progress & said its coming your getting there which pleased me no end which is testament to the way john learns you the bass, for me you learn a song then another which is in the same chords but with little twists here & there but helps me remember the chords so i am starting to know where i am on the bass which at first i found daunting but its starting to fall in place, so my advice is practise & stick at it nothings easy i like most will have to put in alot of work to get out of it what i want & john will help you he checks your progress & knows how far to challenge your ability looking forward to my next lesson.

From the minute I spoke with John on the telephone I felt comfortable and at ease about meeting with him for some lessons. Having just had my second lesson I can say that his teaching skills and methods are excellent. I knew some chords but feel John has a great understanding of pitching the sessions just right to make them achievable whilst moving me on at a pace that I can progress at. I am already looking forward to the next session. He is a very nice guy to get on with and makes you feel at ease, even when you don't get things right, as we all do. There is no question that Iwill be sticking with him. I would, and will recommend John for people who are interested in lessons wether you are a beginner or want to progress with skills you already have. Thanks John.

He comes to our house every sunday to give my son Philip his lesson, before he came my son could not play a note on his guitar which he purchased last August after he lost his gran at the ripe old age of 102, he got the guitar with the money left to him by his gran in her will and it is worth every penny that i give Mr Bevin without whom my son would not be able to play his guitar.
